Lip fillers – they’re one of our favourite treatments here in Suffolk, and for good reason. Results can be immediate and develop over the first few days; it’s relatively painless; and the treatment can help correct a whole range of concerns, including thinning, wrinkles and asymmetry.
Today, we’ll look at how long they last, how to care for them post-treatment, and reasons you might consider the treatment in the first place.
1. Pre-treatment
It all starts with a consultation. We’ll discuss your concerns, examine your skin and talk through the process in a bit more detail. Many of our clients love how anti-ageing lip fillers can be, while others pursue the treatment for a more balanced aesthetic or to enhance lips that have thinned with age.
2. Lip Filler Treatment
On the day, we’ll use a numbing agent to keep skin comfortable and get the lip injections ready. We may mark the areas we’re treating. Results can be immediate and develop over the initial few days, and many enjoy their new lips for anywhere from 6-12 months. It’s important to remember that, while lip injections are long-lasting, they aren’t permanent. All in all, the appointment should take less than an hour.
3. Post Lip Filler treatment
Light swelling, bruising and redness can all occur, so it’s important to care for your skin in those early days. Minimal touching of the treated area is advised, although you can apply cooling packs. We also suggest avoiding make-up in the first day or so, and heated treatments – think spa or sauna – should be avoided, too. Over-the-counter pain relief can help manage any discomfort but ask us (or your doctor) about this.
In the future, you can easily repeat the treatment to prolong the effects. Or, you might want to try a different amount of lip filler or inject a slightly different area, for a different result. Because the main ingredient of lip injections – hyaluronic acid – is broken down gently by the body over time, results will gradually wear away.
Finally, it’s good to know that we can treat a range of areas with lip fillers:
- Nasolabial lines (nose-to-mouth lines)
- Marionette lines (lip-to-chin lines)
- Peri-oral lines (smoker’s lines)
